how much does it cost for the student to student ambassador program?

how much does it cost for the student to student ambassador program?
i got a letter for on to go to england, france, belgium, wales, ireland and the netherlands...and also can anyone tell wat u have to do to be accepted? wat all u have to do and do u have to have good grades to go? i have a b average and someone told me that u have to have straight a's to go
Financial Aid - 1 Answers

The straight a's theory is not true. The leaders do not judge you by your grades. They judge you on your maturity level. To get in, you have to submit some forms, two teacher recommendations and one adult recommendation. After that, one of the leaders will contact you and set up an interview date. The interview determines whether or not you're accepted, but don't worry about it. It's really simple. Once you're accepted, you attend a series of meetings to prepare you for the trip and to get to know some of the other students in your delegation.

Netherlands or Hungary for exchange program?

Netherlands or Hungary for exchange program?
I will be an exchange student with AFS program. I have to options one is Holland and the other is Hungary. What do you think I should choose?
Other - Europe - 3 Answers

In your other question you mention being committed to Hungary. If so, go to Hungary. If you are not committed yet, you still have the information of the host family who are expecting you. Hungary will be less expensive than the Netherlands. Looking at what you can and can not do as 16 year old exchange student, I am not sure the Netherlands would bring what you now think they will, so keep your first choice.
2 :
Netherlands they speak english
3 :
Both countries are great. Hungary and the Netherlands both have a lot to offer. Even much so with Hungary. Not too many people are aware of how beautiful Hungary's culture/history is and I think Hungary would be a great choice. Something you should not miss!

Which People to People Student Ambassador trip should I choose?

Which People to People Student Ambassador trip should I choose?
I am trying to decide between two. European Heritage - England, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Switzerland (20 days) Exploring Europe - England, France, and Italy (19 days) if you could tell me how much either of these trips cost, that would be appreciated too.
Other - Destinations - 2 Answers

1 :
just weigh the pros and cons the first trip is more days, but youd get to spend fewer amounts of time at each. theres 6 countries in 20 days should average about 3 days per place and 2 extra days. this may or may not include traveling. trip two would give you 6 days in each! (thats a lot of time!) youd get to do a lot of things and really get the chance to explore. just decide is it worth more to see more places, or worth more to see more of one place. no matter which trip you choose you'll have england and france. But maybe you really want to go to Italy? maybe. choosing which countries appeal to you could help decide as well. Im traveling to Germany and Switzerland thsi summer as well as England and France, and Ive heard that Switzerland is absolutely beautiful! But Id still take Italy over Germany, guess it just depends on preferences.
2 :
go on european heritage! i went on exploring europe last year, it was an EXCELLENT experience, but i realized that we were on the bus A LOT which is never fun. considering that european heritage goes to more countries, choose that! i'm 100% sure that exploring europe is $6,500 and %80 sure that european heritage is also $6,500 or at least around that. are you going this summer or next summer??? because it usually depends upon if there is a delegation leaving from your area thats going on that specific program....

Student trying to get to her school? How would I do that?
I want to go to school in the netherlands and I need to find the cheapest flights out of the US (Louisville) to Amsterdam. I'm flying by myself and I'm a minor so someone please help thanks! I've been checking sites but they get a bit trick so direct links would be a great help!

You're joking, right? Flying to Amsterdam is far different than flying to Florida. Any traveller going to school abroad will first need a visa, an additional requirement on top of your passport. As an unaccompanied minor travelling internationally, you'll need special parental permissions and additional documentation, if the airlines will even take you internationally (many won't). Finding a cheap airline ticket is the least of your worries.

List of english teaching universities in the Netherlands?
If anyone could list me a few english teaching unis in Holland, preferable closer to Amsterdam :) and i am from Europe but i have been studying in the middle east at an american high school for 3 years, am i still considered an EU student even though i have an european passport and everything?

No, you are not considered an EU student by the university unless you have resided in the EU for the three years prior to the first day your academic year begins. If you do not meet the three-year residency requirement you will have to pay international tuition fees. An exception may be made if you are living abroad with a parent who is a foreign diplomat or government worker of an EU nation. Children of diplomats or government officials are usually considered EU resident even if physically absent from the European Union for long periods. University of Amsterdam http://www.studeren.uva.nl/application_and_accreditation/object.cfm/CC077E3D-98C8-44C8-93D5F6C3B26826D8/3F7657BC-A4FD-4B4D-BB46CDCABC411F62 "All international study programmes are fully taught in English, except for the Masters in the modern European languages German, Italian, French, Modern Greek, Romanian, Scandinavian, and Spanish, which are taught in the target language."
2 :
All universities in the Netherlands provide international curricula. In Amsterdam there is the Vrije Universiteit (VU) and the Universiteit van Amsterdam (UvA). Close to Amsterdam is Utrecht University (UU) and Erasmus University in Rotterdam. I'd recommend the site of Nuffic, which gives you an oversight of all insitutions, regulations and practicalities.

Is France a very expensive country for a student?

Is France a very expensive country for a student?
I'm supposed to go to either of France, Netherlands or Spain for my 6 week internship. I cant figure out where to go. I should be considering the december january weather too into concern along with the living cost. Is France really that expensive, or is it just Paris?

L'endroit l'endroit l'endroit: it all depends on the location I currently live in france and have been living here for quite some time; if your from the states and you like to cook you will fall in love with the prices of vegatables (a pack of stop light peppers (huge) for a euro) meat is more expensive (originally from VA) alcohol in bar more expensive (average pint is 5euros= 7 30ish dollars) alcohol outside a bar fairly equal or cheaper rent is fairly equal but ive been to all three but have only live in france as a student and as a teacher will you be using language for your internship, if so choose france or spain, if not Netherlands is an amazing country (more expensive) spain is the cheapest, and France has the most culture...if you come to france, learn the basics of the language, with the youth they will love you anyways, certain from the older generations may not be as welcoming however. in the other two you will feel very welcomed most of the time Good luck!
2 :
Have you learned any French or Spanish? I think that is worth considering. You can survive six weeks of winter in any of those countries, but Spain will have the best winter weather I'm guessing. If you are paying your own expenses, then Spain is good due to lower costs.

Hey! I'm looking for language schools that teach Japanese in the Netherlands, but not specifically for Dutch students and more for an international crowd (i.e. the course being based on English and not Dutch). Do you have any suggestions? The closer to Utrecht, the better, but I'll go with anything. Cheers!

Best resource to find english speaking jobs in the Netherlands?
What site(s) are best for finding full-time or part-time employment in the Netherlands, preferably in English? or perhaps one that caters to english speaking students? Thanks! I am also an EU citizen

this web site has a good number of leads https://www.werk.nl/portal/page/portal/werk_nl/werknemer/working_in_the_netherlands_wn/inenglish and is written/maintained by an government-affiliated organization There are also lots of foreign (English-speaking) students, who don't speak Dutch, working in bars etc, mainly in the cities that have a university.
2 :
www.elynx.nl (go into notices - employment offered) http://www.expatica.com/nl/employment.html http://www.amsterdamweekly.nl/content/view/76/146/ http://www.undutchables.nl/ Depending on what type of work you are looking for you can find international companies that have offices in Amsterdam and apply direct. Hotels and Irish pubs are also mainly English speaking environments and a good place to start while you are learning Dutch. 5 years ago not speaking Dutch wasn't really such a problem but in teh last few years more and more places are asking that you have at least a basic understanding of Dutch to be employed.
3 :
Well only if you possess a EU nationality or a residence permit that allows you to work in The Netherlands or a working visa for the Netherlands is how you could apply to jobs... other than that the most of the people speak english here and in the EU countries, and people of the UK can perfectly do the job if natives are needed... So let know if you possess any of the above (residence permit, or EU member) to actually recommend you sites, other than you cannot just apply...

What is the People to People Student Ambassador Program like?

What is the People to People Student Ambassador Program like?
I got a letter for this program to go to England, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland for the summer of 2011. For anyone who has been, what is it like? Is it worth the money? What is the process like, because I heard you have to go through interviews and an application process? Tell me all you know about it and if it's worth going! It would be the summer before my senior year, and I think it's worth a try to at least go to the meeting because it would look good on college applications. But I'm not sure! Thanks.

Okay, I literally got back from a People to People trip 5 days ago. It was THE best 3 weeks of my life. I went to France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. I made sooooo many new friends that i miss already. It is 100% worth your money. It is the best experience I've ever had. I mean it. I'm only a freshman but I will never forget it. You have an interview with your leader and pretty much everyone is accepted (although some people...let's say should not have been :P). THen you go to a few meeting to get a picture of what the trip will be and to give you travel tips about packing, jet lag, etc. On the trip, since its more than 1 week, you make friends with EVERYONE! i now have 40 new friends :) It really sad when you leave because you really love the countries you've visited and all the friends you've made but thats what cel phones and Facebook is for :) Deffinatly the best experience and great on an application :) GO ON THE TRIP! best memories of your life :)
3 :
I got a letter too, but I would be going to Australia! My friend actually just got back from a trip through them. She went to Austria, France, Italy, and Switzerland. She said it was the best time of her life, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I haven't had a chance to ask her about the selection process or anything. But, I do know that you need 3 letters of recommendation. And, at the meeting you get to talk to students and their families who have gone on previous trips. They can tell you how to raise the money and all of that stuff. I am going to the meeting, so I hope my parents let me go to Australia next summer! Feel free to email me if you want to talk about anything, or tell each other how excited we are!

How do I organize my two-day trip to flower parade in the Netherlands?

How do I organize my two-day trip to flower parade in the Netherlands?
Where should I take bus/train to? Where could I stay for a night? (not too expensive, I am a student) How much (approx.) would this fun cost? P.S. Comming from abroad, from direction of Berlin.

well, if you really must go, first you have to see what it is so spectacular that you have to go abroad, I mean is it worth it financially? That's what you really want to know isn't it? Of course it is, but don't get side tracked. Know the import/export laws if you decide to bring back seeds or plants. Get a great camera(phone) and easy dismantling tripod and glossary of terms in english and scottish(?).
2 :
Which parade? Because there are several, one in Autumn has had its last ride last year. This is a spring parade that still runs: http://www.bloemencorso-bollenstreek.nl/index.asp?lan=nl The Dutch page has info on the 2008 run, the English page only on the 2007 one. Download the 'folder' it has a very extensive program. I had a look and Amsterdam is a good place to stay, or Haarlem. The Netherlands are so small that if you stay in a town in the same general part of the country you are able to visit the festival or tour, without much additional traveling. If you stay in Amsterdam you will have a lot of choice in cheaper lodgings, and transport by train or bus will be available to any of the bigger flower festivals and parades. Added: Watching the parade coming past on the road is free, you can see the parade being build, entry รข‚¬4. Expect about รข‚¬ 20 for local transport if you stay in Amsterdam, less if you stay nearer. I do not know how much a train, plane or bus ticket Berllin/Amsterdam costs, you can search for that on-line, by entering those words into Google. Hostels would cost about รข‚¬25 to รข‚¬35 per night, a hotel much more and expect all local hostels and hotels near the route to be booked solid near that time.

Im still trying to figure out why I never got my letter but they skipped right too me missing the info meeting. Im really confused! I got the application book tho cause they sent it too me. Go on there webstie and click apply now on your program and itll tell you!
2 :
I read the information provided on their website. No mention of the amount of money required and no mention of whether or not my reservation suggests a no way out clause. Suppose I'll just have to find out at the information meeting in October.
3 :
My son just got a letter this afternoon too. We looked at the website and I see no mention of a price, but I'm sure it's going to be pricey! We did reserve his spot for the informational meeting, but he knows it may not fit into our budget. I do not believe going to the meeting will cost you anything but your time and gas to get there. The whole point of the meeting is to inform us about the program itself. I'm just a little leery about sending him overseas after reading the complaints on People to People. They have even had a death resulting from lack of providing medical care. While this particular student had pre-existing conditions, he was denied medical attention when he so desperately needed it. I know that when i was in middle school I went on a trip to Washington D.C. (not sure if it was People to people) and it was a great experience. i saw thing and went places I never would have had the chance to in my small town life. I know this would be a great experience for the children, just do your research and attend the meeting.

I have been before and it was life changing, reserve your SEAT at an information meeting ( through the website its free) and they will explain everyting you cant automatically go you have to go through interviews and stuff it is expensive but worth it like i said they explain everything at the meeting

I think the hotel costs around 69 EUR per night.

Good day, i was a exchange student to germany from south africa some 15 years ago and i will tell you this. You do not have to worry so much about crime because you will be placed with a well off family which will look after your security needs. I do not know how school is these days but be sure it will be a very different experience for you, for starters everybody wears school uniforms and there are a lot of rules so it will be surprising for you. Your family will most likely take you on some nice trips. Give it a go if you are interested in a different cultures and so on.

I think u came and asked in the wrong website. Most of the ppl here have a negative attitude towards their country, but anyway. SA high schools are fun. My friend had an exchange student placed in her home. She isn't well off, just middleclass. She went to a nearby mixed medium school (English and Afrikaans). The school went to events like landsdiens (kinda like a camp) and interhighs (an athletics event where all the town's high schools compete and the school's cheerleaders do themed routines). Some schools (usually all boy/all girl) schools have socials where boys or girls from other schools come for a dance, some of the boys from my school were invited to Oprah Winfrey's school's social. Some SA schools are cliquey, but most aren't because everyone dresses the same and all, but kids like having friends that are the same colour as them or who like the same type of music as them. The coursework is in most subjects is mostly South African and about our people. We have 4 school terms and holidays that are a few weeks long each. December holidays are usually the longest. We write cycle tests in term 1 and 3 and exams in term 2 and term 4. We have rcl elections where we vote for a school president, secretary, p.r.o. etc. In some schools girls can't be president or smart kids are the only ones allowed to run for the rcl or the elections are open. Some schools have major discipline problems like bullies, gangs, drugs, fighting, bunking, racism. In other schools smart kids are unliked (like my school). Some schools will have a large number of rich or poor kids, or biracial kids, foreigners, portugeuse people, white people, black people, etc: this is usually because of the school's history, school fees (we pay here), and location. My school has a lot of portugeuse kids or biracial portugeuse kids because it is near a part of town where a lot of portugeuse people live. We don't have lockers, but other schools rent lockers to students for something like R40 a year. Our schools are open air, meaning that classes aren't under one roof like in America. Most schools these days don't have bells, but use sirens as a bell. My school has a fingerprint machine that marks whether you are present for school or late. We have honours societies or colts that are the elite students at school and wear different colour blazers from the others. In some schools they have their own special room where they eat, relax at break, etc. Cultural events and extramurals differ. At my school we do plays, Idols competitions, science fairs, public speaking, scrapbooking, etc In year 12/grade 12/12th grade we have a special event called a Matric dance where we go to dance dressed in formal clothes. Some girls spend thousands of rands on dresses, shoes and hair. It's kinda like prom night in America, but we don't have a Matric queen or king lol. Hope this helped. If you're gonna go to Joburg, Pretoria or Cape Town consider yourself lucky because you'll meet lots of different people and take part in a LOT of things depending on the students' attitudes and the capability of the school to allow you to. :)

Between $3,000 and $10,000 per student. They do not offer financial aid. Basically, it's a very expensive vacation, and vacations won't do anything at all for your college application. If you have the money to spend, go for it - most people who go have a good time. But if you don't, then don't bother. You could book the same trip for yourself for less than half that price and bring a parent along.

It depends on what program you decide to choose. I was "invited" to one of their meetings, and found out there that the cost was $6,000 for 19 days. It was a little bit too steep for me, but they do offer ideas for fundraisers and scholarships. The scholarships are only for $1000, though.

i was invited also;to go to australia and new zealand. have you gone to the meetings? i suggest you do;because they'll tell you the price there.&you dont necessarily have to be going in order to go to the meeting.they said my price was about $4000.

How much is the cost of living in Utrecht for a grad student?

How much is the cost of living in Utrecht for a grad student?
I am planning to pursue my master degree in Utrecht, the Netherlands, starting in September this year. I wanna know how much does it cost for monthly spending in Utrecht, which includes at the very least, accommodation, food, transportation, etc? In addition, I am not a EEA citizen. Can I have part time job that is decent to help out with the cost of living, and what are the options? Thank you.
Studying Abroad - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :

It depends, There are certain organizations who can help you to find a (temporary) accomodation anywhere between 200ish and 400ish euro. Appartment will cost you more, about 500-1000 euro a month. Cost of living depends on your lifestyle. Cost of transportation depends on how far you travel. All together if you don`t spend to much on partying, you should be able to make it on a 500-800 euro a month budget. Part time jobs are to be found mostly in cafe`s, restaurants, working at events, call centers, etc. You can get around 10euro an hour for a part time student job (somethimes little more, sometimes little less)

Is people to people student ambassador programs a scam?

Is people to people student ambassador programs a scam?
I got this letter saying that i was invited to go to england, france, belgium, and the netherlands to study at these places . It says its founded by presdent Dwight D. Eisnhower. If anyone knows about this program, like if i have to pay to travel or if its fake please tell me.

Well, it's not a fake. But it has changed drastically since it's inception. Now there is little left of the educational part and it's much more an over priced tourist trip. Trip costs can easily reach $6,000+++. Your letter is one of thousands that are sent out each year by this organization, so while it makes you SOUND special, it's really not. The money you would spend for a 3 week trip could finance a good portion of an ENTIRE YEAR exchange with an organization such as YFU, AFS or Rotary. You'd also have all the benefits that go along with such an exchange such as cultural and language immersion.
2 :
NO, it is not a scam! lol. i went on a trip last year with people to people to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. it was the best time of my life! i met sooo many amazing kids and learned sooo much! it's not like school or anything, you pretty much go to a bunch of places and learn. you may have a silly little quiz every now and then; but you can't fail. they also give you a high school credit once you have completed the program. also, you were sent that letter because you were either nominated by a teacher or a student in your school that has been on a trip with them the previous year. yes...it is expensive. most europe (they have ones that go to asia and australia) trips range from $6,000-$8,000. although, you can pay by month (about $900 per month) or choose any other type of billing plan that you want. people to people also offers fundrasing programs. i know a girl that was in my group who raised every single cent for her trip! also, EVERYTHING is included in the price. hotels, 3 meals a day, attractions, transportation, airline tickets, etc are all included. Misc. Info: -most trips last about 20 days. -you go with a "delegation" which is made up of about 40 kids from your area as well as 4 "leaders" who are teachers from your area. -you have a homestay...where you live with a family in the country that you are visiting for 2 or 3 days. -you have to go through a process in order to be accepted (3 letters of reccomendation and an interview) although, they accept most kids -you have monthly meetings with your delegation before you leave to get to meet the kids and leaders -IT WILL BE THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFEEEE! have fun. and good luck :]

if your parents didnt go to college in the united states are you still a 1st generation college student?
My parents are from the netherlands. In holland they do not have the same college system as the united states and it is more like trade schools. Both my parents went to trade school universities in holland . I am a 1st generation american. With these circumstances am i also a 1st generation college student? My mom blacksmith my dad business school

At this trade school what do they learn? If they literally learned a trade like how to become a blacksmith then yes you are a first generation college student, if they learned engineering then no you are not a first generation college student. My mother never went to college, but my dad went to a polytechnic college in England for engineering so I am not a first generation college student just because I'm the first in my family to go to college in America. If your dad went to business school then you aren't a first generation college student.

How is the LLM Study in the Netherlands?

How is the LLM Study in the Netherlands?
I'm a Chinese. I find it difficult to find a job in China. So I think it the same applying to the abroad study in the Netherlands. I want to know how the courses are organized in the Netherlands and whether the school will provide LLM students more chances to practice law
Netherlands - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I was a student advisor for an International Business course and we recruited many Chinese students for this, so studying in the Netherlands is most certainly possible. Not knowing what LLM meant, I looked it up quickly and ok it is a specifically advanced law degrees. The best site to use as a starting point to studying in the Netherlands is http://www.nuffic.nl/ It gives info on life in the Netherlands, studying in NL, how to do it, costs, visa info etc etc and importantly you for you a list of available courses in English http://www.nuffic.nl/international-students/dutch-higher-education/search-international-study-programmes/ispac_search_form. There are all different specalisms of law on offer, so it is best for you to check this for yourself. Best of luck. \ EDIT@ Andy - sorry what you are saying is not 100% true. As I mentioned I actually worked for a Uni so have first hand knowledge of a lot of International students' experiences. All the universities I know have counsellors or a dept dedicated to foreign students to give advice and support - ok some better than others Housing is hard to find yes, but universities have connections with housing agencies or even campus accomodation - so as long as you arrange it in advance then you can get accomodation near to or even on site. Bank account - easy - go to ABN Amro - it is even in English and done within one visit usually. Not one of the students I know had to go to the headquarters! Actually having studied on an exchange in the UK - I would actually say it is as hard or harder to get into a decent uni with accomodation where the walls were not damp and disgusting or paying through the nose. Also it is a lot more expensive to study in the UK as a foreign student than in the Netherlands (at least when I was working as the counsellor). It's personal of course - but I really strongly disagree! EDIT - Andy - you are so factually off the mark it is untrue and I could refute each and everyone of your statements with facts and cite sources for each as well, but this would turn into a catfight. Actually, all of your assumptions about me and why I came to the UK are wrong as well. I am not "University staff" already for a long time (it was my positon on my third year placement as part of my uni degree) - I am (as mentioned before) however lucky enough to have studied for four years whereby I have two degrees (one Dutch, one British) and spent 1 semester in the UK per year and the other in NL. Therefore this is first hand info based on personal experience and so about as "independant" as you can get, and better than hearsay from "a friend". Two points that did stand out - The Netherlands is cheaper than the UK on cost of living (check out all the cost of living surveys) and Amsterdam is cheaper than London. So compare fairly and accurately if you are going to comment at all - e.g. http://www.finfacts.com/costofliving.htm - London is ranked 3rd most expensive worldwide and Amsterdam 25th. Secondly NL also has Aldi, Lidl etc etc where the prices are cheap and Tescos is NOT cheap - only certain sections/brands within the store are, and that is the same in NL as well As I said, if you want to draw comparisons, then please be in the position to do so, and base it on facts and not hearsay. If you enable your Email I am happy to discuss further - but will leave the comments as in on here. I was not rude to you, so please give me the same respect back.
2 :
Hi Never go to Netherlands for studies as an international student. You get zero support from the universities and the visa procedure is a nightmare. There are so many barriers for international students. They discourage international students imposing these restrictions. Housing is the biggest nightmare in Holland. You will have to wait months to find accommodation. (Talk to your friends who study in Netherlands. You will hear horror stories) To open a bank account? This is another nightmare. You will have to go to bank's headquarters in Amsterdam. Then they will send you to another branch. Then the branch will say you have to go back to the headquarters again which means you will be travelling around the city with no proper advice. After all, it takes another few weeks to activate the bank account. (By this time you have run out all your cash) On top of all, public transport is very expensive. Normally you cannot find accommodation near universities.Lots of tram trips are involved. I would not advise you to go to continent for LLM. Try UK, Australia or America. They have well renowned universities and eventually you get internationally recognized LLM. My preferences would be, 1. UK 2. Australia 3. USA And look no further. Good Luck! To Blah Blah: Sorry to hear about your second edition. As you work for Uni and as an employee, you are technically correct, but practically incorrect. Technically, they think (the staff including you) they are doing a great job for students but to satisfy themselves. The real support is very poor for students. Yes, ABN Amro if a prime example for bank account nightmare. I am surprised to learn that you advise your students that they can open an account without going to the bankรข€™s HQ in Amsterdam. Is that how you make your students to go around Amsterdam? (This is actually good for first time visitors in Amsterdam for sight seeing) In the UK, you walk in to the bank and you open the bank account. Simple as that and within less than a week, you get your bankcards etc. Accommodation in the UK. I know many European students who come to UK apply for the CHEAPEST accommodation available. I assume you did the same Blah Blah. When you go for cheaper option, you need to understand that there is a reason for it to be cheaper. BUT at least it is not a nightmare like in Holland. Nobody waits months in the UK to get accommodation and of course they are much cheaper than Amsterdam accommodation and International students are not required to register with Municipalities/councils, which they are made to wait weeks including making appointments. After a all, in Netherlands, there are no incentives for international students. They are prepared only to take money from Intl.Students. In the UK, once you have finished your studies you are allowed to work for two years with no restrictions at all. Finally the visa nightmare for international students in Holland. You need to apply for visa then you need to apply for appointment with IND (? not sure about the name) as you are required to register with it within 72 hours of your arrival. When you come from China you are likely to get jet lagged and may be tired too. But despite the fact that, you are required to find your way to IND and required to register with it within that time scale. ( I do not know what will happen if you do not comply with this 72 hour requirement.) Is UK expensive? No Many students from the continent think that UK is expensive. But Amsterdam is much more expensive than UK with limited options. In the UK you will find so many options to choose from according to your preferred life style. For example, shopping. If you are moderate then you will find Tesco (The same supermarket as in China), Sainsburyรข€™s etc. For cheaper options, there are Netto, Lidl etc. If not you can try M&S, Waitrose etc for expensive shopping. However, it is totally for you to decide what to do and this is my idea only. The best idea would be to talk to your friends who study in Netherlands and UK. Then weigh up their experience and then come to a conclusion. Do not listen to Uni staff like Blah Blah as they see only their side and their advice is NOT Independent! To Bla Bla (sorry I misspelt your name earlier) Bla Bla you seem to be a nice person. I was not rude to you at all and as we both understand, we were trying to help somebody to make a decision with a support from our experience and it is totally down to them to make thier mind up re what to do. Hope you agree? Thanks!

It costs quite a bit of $$ but is a pretty good program. Go to their meeting in your town and learn all about it.
2 :
just attend the meeting tht's on the paper and they'll tell you all about it and how much it cost. it can cost $10-4k but all fees are included but if you go you should bring at least $500 for snacks and souvenirs plus you get to do rly cool activites and meet some of the greatest ppl ever =] you can also receive a credit for going but you have to complete the assignments they tell you to do such as completing a journal, an essay about the country(ies) you're going to, and the online quizzes
3 :
i went to france, england, and whales when i was 12 and it was really fun. You make friends with people you will never really meet in everyday life. In 2006 i think it was $5000 but its worth it. Some people in my group fundraised all of it.You can also get high school and college credit if you do their assignments journal, projects, ect. You also stay with a homestead family for about 3days and you get to see what there life is like. My homestead family made me feel right and home and were the nicest british people i ever meet

So long as they are legally resident with authorities (ie have the correct immigration status and registered with a muncipality) then yes they are Dutch residents and will be entitled to obtain a pass - at least as I understand it. It's only becomes "treacherous shrubbery" in the lands of lousy gardners who let it overtake the garden so to speak!

I am a U.S. student planning on enrolling in an American Uni in The Netherlands. I need a loan! Help!?
I am currently enrolled in a private university in Texas that is about $30,000 a year. I do not get financial aid because my parents make too much money. I am majoring in International Business and am interested in enrolling at Webster University in Leiden, The Netherlands. The tuition is about the same as I am paying in the United States, BUT..my dad does not want me to go there (he thinks I should stay here.) He says the only way I can go overseas is if I get a loan. Since I would be attending an AMERICAN university (just overseas..), what are my options? Thanks!

You may be able to get an alternative/private loan, however you would most likely need a co-signer. Also, if you borror 30,000 on a private loan, you will actually end up paying back about 90,000 because of the high interest. If your parents are footing the bill if you study in the US, then you should be appreciative and stay here. Paying back $90,000 for one year of school is crazy. Maybe you can work something out with your parents, maybe you can study abroad one semester, or maybe you can do a summer course abroad. I would really work with your parents to try to find a compromise.

Congrats on wanting to study abroad! Both the Netherlands and Ireland are great places. I have never been to Den Haag, but I know Limerick, Galway and most of Ireland pretty well. The areas have great universities, amazing sites, and fun food. Galway is great if you like a cool city/college town, as well as the coast. My cousin lives in Galway and loves it. You're only a couple hours away from Dublin and most of Ireland. You can easily fly from Galway, Dublin, or Cork to most of Europe. Here are a few articles on Ireland and Galway, from a study abroad perspective (http://bit.ly/cSB5y0). If you're still looking for programs in each place, check out a new study abroad/travel website called Gulliver. It has profiles for a couple thousand programs around the world. Could give you an idea of what's out there. Here are some programs for Galway (http://bit.ly/9Xqjf9) and Limerick (http://bit.ly/cf7H2F). Hope this helps!

How to bring my gf to The Netherlands?

How to bring my gf to The Netherlands?
Hi, I'm a dutch university student living on "studiefinanciering" a kind of student loan and would like to know how to get a visa for my peruvian girlfriend to come and live with me, she has university studies (communication sciences) and speaks fluent English, no dutch however. Please any advice anyone could give me would be very appreciated since I love and miss her a lot. By the way, I met her in Peru where I was living before coming to The Netherlands to finish my career.

Marry her
2 :
I don't think you'll be able to. You have to demonstrate that you have sufficient income to support BOTH of you. The government will not take into account any income she might be able to earn once she has a work visa. Even if you marry her, she may still not get a visa because of this.
3 :
Hey at least you got a girlfriend, lately I couldn't get laid in a women's Penitentiary with a fist full of pardons.
4 :
In order to bring your partner to the Netherlands it is NOT necessary to be married. The only requirement is that you must have a long-term and exclusive relationship (so polygamy is not allowed). It doesn't even have to be a heterosexual relationship by the way. You do however have an obligation to share a household once your partner is in the Netherlands. If the police or the IND find out she is living elsewhere she risks deportation. It is however necessary to have a FIXED job that brings in 120% of the minimum-wage. If you cannot make this, then forget it. The Dutch IND will only wave this requirement for people over 65 or who are on disability benefit. Apart from a salary, your girlfriend also has to pass a basic Dutch language exam (in Peru) according to the new law. Without a passing grade she will not get the residency permit. Apart from all this: In order to apply for a residency permit in the Netherlands she must first get a MVV in her home country. This is very important because there is no way the IND will give you a residency permit without this little piece of paper and it is not available in Holland... Good luck to both of you!

Can an Australian study overseas as an international student?

Can an Australian study overseas as an international student?
I'm currently in Grade 11, approaching the halfway mark. I am interested in studying abroad. I was thinking the other day, Australia has a lot of international students, so can I study as an international student overseas? I would love to study in France, The Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, or Austria. As they are centrally located in Europe. Can I for my undergraduate (Bachelor of Business, (Marketing/Advertising. P.s Haven't decided on yet) study in one of these countries in english. I would love to. Thank-you!

Yes, of course. Simply contact your nearest consular office of whichever country or countries you are interested in and find out the visa requirements. It will likely be easier for you to get a visa once you have been accepted to a university.
2 :
Most non-English european countries do their undergraduate degrees in English - some postgraduate degrees are in English but not their undergraduate. If you do this in as a year within an exchange program you only pay HECS fees for the year, but if you do the entire degree over there you will pay non-EU fees which are about the same as our international fees (100K for a degree) which will need to be paid up front. Unless you family is very rich they will not be able to get this saved up in one year.

How do you choose a exchange student program?
Hi my parents have agreed to let me do a foreign exchange student program for my junior year in high school. So the 2010-2011 school year. I really want to go to the Netherlands. I have heard great things about the rotary exchange program but I can not find anywhere on their site where they say how much it would cost. Also what do you think about the AFS program? it would be for the entire school year

I've applied for an AFS year scholarship to Japan, From my knowledge, there are no scholarships to the Netherlands avaliable at the moment however it would cost roughly $10,000. (it costs that much in Australia anyway) I'm not sure with Rotary but I know for sure that they go to the Netherlands. It's probably around the same price Good luck!
2 :
The top three programs are AFS, YFU and Rotary. Any of the three would serve you well. Generally, you are not guaranteed a particular country, you would list your top three. I can't say for Rotary, because they are set up differently --- and even differently by district -- by a year program with YFU and AFS will run around $8000 or so plus your monthly expenses. Most of the programs don't have pricing up yet, because it has not been set for the next school year.
3 :
AFS are very nice and they offer scholorships. Its the leading student exchange program and has been around for 60 yrs for more info you could go on there web site and request a free catalog

Are there any American Welding companies in The Netherlands?
I'm currently a welding student in America but I want to move to The Netherlands and I understand that it is a lot easier if you work for a large company that is already over there and get transferred to where it is in The Netherlands.

Hi Shaggy... Not that I know of... American companies in The Netherlands are usually like airlines, IT companies, DHL and UPS, multinationals like Coca-Cola, Pepsico, stuff like that... Wages in general are higher in the US than in The Netherlands and since the Dutch generally speak English well it's usually (higher) management positions that companies like the above would send Americans to Europe for, if at all. Welders and other professionals like woodworkers, etc, we have plenty of ourselves I think and if not we usually "import" them from lower wage EU countries like for instance Poland, not higher wage countries that are non-EU like the USA. Sorry, I wish I could have given you an answer you would be happier with. But I might be wrong and you could possibly find a position on a offshore site or something like that, you know, like an oil rig? I hear that also pays very well and you might be able to find one close to the Netherlands. Or maybe in shipping? We have a very large port in Rotterdam... You'll have to do a bit of research yourself I'm afraid. You could of course always try finding a nice Dutch girl and getting married to her?

Their site is in English and they have a contact form so you can ask them your questions in English if you like. http://www.nederland-web.nl/r/Lasbedrijven/ is a list of 834 other Dutch welding firms. I didn't look at any of their pages though... http://www.duikforum.nl/opleidingen/20476-beroepsduiker-onderwaterlassen.html is a forum for divers where someone else asked a question about underwater welding. Since most Dutch people speak English I'm sure that if you put a question on the forum in English they'd be glad to answer it for you (in English). Just explain that you're an American welding student who'd like to live in the Netherlands. Of course you can use one of the many online translation tools to get an idea of what's being said in Dutch and if you have any other questions just let us know here and we'll try to help you out. I hope this helps... Good luck! oh, and bedrijf=company las=weld lassen=welding snij=cut en=and so, a "las en snijbedrijf" is a welding and cutting company... -----edit---- Lo, ok, I know as little about diving as I do about welding, but I started reading this page on the divers forum http://www.duikforum.nl/opleidingen/4824-onderwaterlasser.html and they're telling this guy who asked the question that it's a forum for amateur divers and not for pro's but they're still giving him lots of info... they're saying that apparently there's no Dutch course for underwater welders so if he wants to study that he'll have to go to the UK or the States to be trained... Which I guess is good news for you... They give a bunch of adresses of courses in the UK and the USA and apparently one of the forum members is a retired underwater welder... I strongly suggest you become a member of that forum and introduce yourself there and ask them for advice... ----2nd edit---- Just found you a Dutch forum for professional divers... http://www.beroepsduiker.nl/index_eng.html and it's even bi-lingual Dutch/English! :-) hmmm their forum seems to be out of order though.... Here's the site (also bilingual) of the Dutch professional divers association... They also have a forum but it seems to only allow association members to post there.... http://www.nederlandseverenigingvanberoepsduikers.nl/frameset.html lol, well, I guess this will give you something to do over the weekend huh? ;-) ______________________________________________ Two more things... You're already a diver, right? Because I think it's harder to become a certified diver than to become a certified welder... I could be wrong though... Second... Dutch socialism could very well be a thing of the past... The country is becoming more and more right wing every new election...
